Cathy Raphael

Chair of the Board of Directors
Cathy Raphael learned about community engagement as a Girl Scout, participating in projects at home and abroad. Community building has been the central of her activities ever since. She served as a VISTA volunteer in New Mexico, did construction work on Arcosanti, Paolo Soleri's "city of the future," and devoted 12 years to the Sociable Workshop, a community artist nonprofit organization.

Cathy helps direct her family's donor advised funds at the Pittsburgh Foundation as well as her own, the Danu Fund. She created the Fairy Godmother Fund at the Ms. Foundation for Women and participates in its Democracy Funding Circle. She has served on the board of the Funding Exchange and is a participant in their Criminal Justice Initiative. Cathy is a founding board member of the Women and Girl's Foundation of Southwest PA. She is a long time supporter of Three Rivers Community Foundation in Pittsburgh where she has established a Women's Initiative Fund. She has served on the boards of the Society for Contemporary Craft and Phoenix Institute. Cathy is a member, and has served on the board of, The Women Donors Network.  Cathy is currently serving as vice-chair of the Women's Law Project board. She was the former president of "It's Our Turn to Play," an organization which led adult "playshops" across the country and the founding member of GUPPI (Grown Up People Playing International).
