Economic Justice

The Ms. Foundation for Women invests in organizing for just economic policies that promote the well-being and security of women, families and communities. With Ms. Foundation strategic support, our grantees are advancing the solutions of those most affected by economic injustice to address a range of issues including worker rights and access to quality, living-wage jobs, affordable child care, paid sick leave, job training and other critical policies and programs necessary for women to achieve economic security and strengthen our national economy overall.

In the wake of today’s global economic crisis, the Ms. Foundation is delivering grants to groups on the ground to support the just implementation of economic recovery legislation in areas such as unemployment insurance and child care subsidies. We’re also working with our partners to promote women’s access to higher wages and greater economic security in emerging industries like green jobs.

Community Voices on the Economy

In April 2011 the Ms. Foundation released findings from a nationwide omnibus poll conducted by Lake Research Partners, which reveal women and families have yet to recover from the economic crisis and that Americans want government to take a larger, stronger role in fixing the economy. This poll revisits key questions from our 2010 Community Voices on the Economy survey, a joint project with the Center for Community Change.

Hollaback! was started in 2005 to address the failure of public policy to combat street harassment. The organization harnesses the story-telling and sharing ability of new technologies in order to track, catalogue and report instances of street harassment. Ultimately, Hollaback! fights for a culture that does not allow street harassment to be the &"’price you pay’ for being a woman or for being gay." Learn more and view the video
